About repair cafes
The first repair café was set up by Martine Postma in Amsterdam in 2009, as a response to the huge amount of stuff that is thrown away every day. The Repair Café Foundation was launched in 2011 to support local groups in the Netherlands and beyond. In 2018, 1,653 repair café groups worldwide held nearly 20,000 meetings, preventing 350,000 kilos of waste.
Repair Cafés form a worldwide movement that strives to preserve repair skills in society and to promote more repairable products. Besides the Netherlands, there are Repair Cafés in Belgium, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the United States and in dozens of other countries around the world. Repair Café has even made its way to India and Japan!
